Esteemed edition of one of the most important texts on the Peninsular War. William Napier (1785-1860), English general and historian who fought in the Peninsular War in Spain and Portugal, wrote this text based on his own combat experiences, as well as information provided by the Duke of Wellington and French Marshal Nicolas-Jean de Dieu Soult. After withdrawing in 1819, Napier began writing his history in 1823, and was received with acclaim for his powerful descriptions of the battles. Still a reference text today. Rare and prized edition, illustrated with 55 separately printed engravings.
