SKETCHES of Portuguese Life, Manners, Costume, and Character. London: Geo. B. Whtittaker, 1826.
XXVIII, 364 pp., 21 grav.: il.; 215 mm.
One of the most esteemed and important works of what is known among us as "Foreigners over Portugal", entirely dedicated to Portuguese customs, essentially those of Lisbon, richly illustrated with 21 color prints representing the traditions treated in the volume. The interest around this work increases due to the fact that it contains the only known testimonial account of the execution of Gomes Freire. Extremely rare and highly sought after. Duarte Sousa, II, 3, mentions only 17 engrav.
