FIRST EDITION of a work that only saw its complete version published in the 20th century. This version was abridged by Father Baltazar Teles, Jesuit brother of the author Father Manuel de Almeida. Father Manuel de Almeida had written an initial draft of the work, but, after failed attempts to return the Jesuit missions, he abandoned the project, only resuming it at the behest of the Company’s Superior General in 1639, finishing it between 1643 and 1645. In his work, he reports on the important role of the Portuguese in the Christianization of Prester John’s lands and the good relations between the Ethiopian Orthodox and the Church of Rome during the 16th century, unlike the enormous tensions in the 17th century. Very rare and important.
