JENKINS (James)
THE MARTIAL Achievements of Great Britain and Her Allies from 1799 to 1815. London: Printed for Js. Jenkins, s.d..
título gravado, frontispício gravado, viii pp., [2] pp. de índice, [60] ff. de texto, 51 águas-tintas: il.; 350 mm.
FIRST EDITION, very rare, of this tribute to English military achievements during the Peninsular War. Comprising a total of 54 superbly executed aquatints for James Jenkins by T. Sutherland, M. Dubourg, D. Havell and D. Hill from drawings by W. Heath, they illustrate the most important battles, including those at Vimeiro, Bussaco, Pombal or Waterloo. The text that accompanies the engravings was obtained, almost entirely, from the letters of Wellington and other English officers and ends with a list of officers killed, wounded or missing during the war. Some copies have an extra aquatint, with a portrait of Wellington, but that is not part of the project. It was sold separately and by some added to the work.
