Very rare work written in English by an anonymous author to serve as a guide for British visitors to the city. The work begins with a historical summary, highlighting information about the earthquake, the royal family's flight to Brazil and Junot's invasion, followed by a brief description of the view of the city from the south bank of the Tagus, the aspects economic, social and ethnographic aspects of the city, with chapters on the nobility, clergy, customs, religion, culture, etc., finally describing, in the form of an itinerary, the most notable places in the city, highlighting the Equestrian Statue, the square bullfighting, flea market, etc. It ends with a set of excursions to the outskirts of the city such as the Palace of Queluz, Sintra, Mafra, Paço de Arcos, Caxias, Cascais, Oeiras, Caparica, Almada, Odivelas, Loures, Palmela, Troia, Arrábida, Alcácer do Sal, Vila Franca , Santarém, Batalha, Alcobaça, Caldas da Rainha, etc.
