8.º, A-Z, Aa-Yy8, Zz4, aaa-ccc8, ddd2; [16], 712, [52], pp.; 150 mm.

Work that José dos Santos attributes to Fr. Rodrigo do Porto, but which Inocêncio places under the reference of Fr. Masseu de Elvas (VI, p. 156), although the considerations he made in II, p. 94 call into question the hypothesis that it was a translation from Castilian by that author. The engraving representing St. Francis receiving the wounds, with legends around it, is referenced by D. Manuel, although, strangely enough, it is not by Pinto Matos. Regarding the disputed authorship of this work, the latter author declares: “This Compendium, which is a Summary of the Manual of Confessors, is attributed to Br. Masseu d'Elvas, and for the printing licenses from Commissioner Fr. Cristóvão de Abrantes to the Guardian of the Convent of Santo António in Coimbra, Fr. Masseu, it can be seen that it was composed by a friar from the Province of Piedade, but anonymous, and who is said to be Fr. Rodrigo do Porto, the same man who composed the Manual of Confessors.” All copies of this work are rare and treasured.
