FIRST edition of this esteemed work on the Portuguese Discoveries, illustrated with sixteen folding engravings. Joseph François Lafitau (1681-1746), a Jesuit, distinguished himself in his Mission in Canada, studying in depth the Iroquois Indian tribe. Returning to France, where he never left, he devoted himself to writing several works, including the present one. Very rare.
