Second edition of this very important work whose oldest Portuguese edition dates from 1592, since the first edition from c.1544 was lost. This novel, divided into two parts, is characterized by the renaissance realistic conception of women, «the result of the author's misfortune in love», which includes doctrinal reflections at the end of each chapter. «It is perhaps the most important Portuguese chivalry novel of its time» [Dic. Literature, 666]. Rare.
