FIRST EDITION. Very rare. António de Sousa Macedo was born in Porto where he was baptized on December 15, 1606. In Lisbon, he studied at Colégio de Santo Antão and only at the age of 22 published the first edition of this work (Lisbon, Jorge Rodrigues, 1631). Leaving behind his teaching at the University of Coimbra, he joined the Court where he was Judge of Appeals at the Casa da Suplicação, secretary of Ambassador D. Antão de Almada to England in 1641, Ambassador to Holland in 1651, Secretary of State in 1663 , Commander of S. Tiago de Souzelas of the Order of Christ and of Santa Eufémia de Penella of the Order of Avis and Mayor of Vila de Freixo de Nemão. He died on November 1, 1682 at the age of 76.
